Mighty Month of Cons

Summer wasn’t as eventful as I’d wanted but I was working on a large illustration to fill the time. I’ll elaborate on this at a later date, but for now here’s a fast time lapse of the process.

Between that and my dayjob, I tabled at a decent amount of conventions and shows during he last weeks of July!

Sticker Snobs

I was at the Sticker Snobs 2nd Anniversary show in Aurora,IL! I met a bunch of cool artists at the Taproom, such as, Mari Dzhelasi and Catalina Diaz, and sold Pastry Cat Stickers in packs! I still have sticker packs left so you can get some on my Etsy store.

The day started slow on a Friday and I stepped away two hours in to get some sleep in my car.

I was better rested the following Saturday, staying the entire day to be more social with patrons and other artists there. The weekend had picked up with people so the show wrapped up in a good end note.

MAPL Fanfest

Two weeks afterward, I tabled at Matteson Area Public Library District Fanfest! A library show that I’ve tabled at for the second year. The show is growing as it has more activities and vendors such as the food trucks.

I’ll admit the gap between shows had left me unprepared. I didn’t have my Copic Markers so my commission potential is limited. I also forgot my business cards, so I was running on around the two dozen I had hidden in my bags and cash boxes.

The show was slow enough that I was able to workaround to chat with fellow Illinois artists such as Ashley Esper and picked up some lip balm from Geek’d Soaps!

Dog Halloween Art

During the time, I got to draw some Halloween themed Dogs as a companion stickers to my Halloween Cats. I’ve been meaning to make some dog stickers for a while but I couldn’t nail down something I wanted to do for them.Halloween is coming soon, so that;s enough to get the noggin going.

In the end, I sold my entire stock of Pastry Cat Table Mats! I’ll need to order more soon but right now, I need to scrape up the funds.

Comicopolis

For the third year, I was at Comicopolis in the White Oak Public Library in Lockport!

I ran in late for the show but I managed to get me set up finished in time to debut my new under tablecloth from Minuteman Press. Tired of guessing how large or small the tables were gonna be at conventions, I got myself an 8ft tablecloth to cover my bases. It looks fantastic with my logo table runner!

Once I got settled the show went smoothly. Good crowd that flowed inside the small library and outside the outdoor event lot like an open river! Between sales and chatting about my work, I caught up with with my fellow artists like Jewel Walton and Juan Gomez, to hear about projects they’ve been doing and shows there up to. I’d love collaborate in the future on working on a new comic, but my plate is still full with Blackmask.

Dog Ice Cream Art

As usual my Pastry Cat Stickers had steady sales. Between the rush of attendees, I arrived at a new idea that is a worthy sequel to these cats! For a while nothing interesting came to mind with dogs, until this show!I’m not sure what sparked the thought process but I was in a dog drawing mode. I thought about how dogs had a droopiness to them and melting ice cream came to mind!

I always wanted to do something Dog related as a sequel to my Cat stuff. While cats are fun to draw, it didn’t represent me as a person. For one thing, I’m allergic to cats in real life and when I touch a cat, I get itchy on my skin. Even when one stays near me for long enough, my eyes and nose get stuffy. A cruel twist indeed! I’m not allergic to dogs so I connect with dogs more than cats.

Disney Robin Hood

Later during Comicopolis, I drew this Robin Hood sketch. The night before the show, I saw the movie for the first time and it was adequate. Many people who see my art mention, that it looks like Disney art reminding them of Robin Hood but I’d never seen the movie until that night.

My first and only Robin Hood media I’ve ever watched was Robin Hood: Men in Tights, so it was interesting seeing this in comparison. Never realized that Hamster Dance is a remix of the intro song from this movie and I’m a dope for not knowing sooner.

The rest of my convention and even slate is clean but Saturday weekend, I’ll be tabling at Alley Art Fest on August 26th! It’s an outdoor show so make sure you prep for the elements and wear some good kicks for all the walking the the rivers. While you’re enjoying the sun and smiles, stop by my table to grab a sticker or two!

I am in the process of getting into some more conventions and if I miss out on mentioning them, you can check out my Conventions Schedule page for more information!
