Over the weekend, I went to the Chicago Indie Game Showcase and played a fine collection of upcoming games developed in Chicago, Illinois!

The show is run by Indie City Games, a local Chicago scene of indie game developers. I applied for a table in the summer to show off a playable build of Blackmask, but it’s for the best as there were killer games out on the floor that Saturday!
Dock King
I had fun messing about with Dock King. The tall stacking and delivering mechanics will lead to shenanigans all over this town of wacky characters.
Escape from Slumberland

Another game that caught my eye is Escape from Slumberland. It’s a mind-trip co-op eldritch horror game where you must explore a nightmare-scape and collect resources and escape before the terrors find you.
Mansion of a Million Monsters
Mansion of A Million Monsters is a highlight for me when I visited CIGS yesterday! If you like top down arcadey kids horror, Mansion of a Million Monsters is the game to play!
Super Phantasy Fighters
If you’re in the thin venn diagram of folks who like Platform Fighters and Phantasy Star Online, Super Phantasy Fighters is a fan game I tried out.
Dream Runner
If you’re hungry for more precision platforming like Celeste and Meat Boy, you can check Dream Runner out! It’s an acquired skill understanding the three different systems of hovering, teleporting, and swordslashing, upon each button, but after pushing through the demo, I think was able to grasp the tight platforming.
Wordlock
Wordlock is a dungeon crawling wizard game where you type words with your keyboard to cast spells. This game is for those with better typing skills than me, so if you dig games like Typing of the Dead and Typecast, this game might be for you!
Trash Dungeon
We loves us a game about a raccoon with a gun and Trash Dungeon, a top down rogue-like, will sate that love! The gameplay is a straight forward top down shooter, like Binding of Issac, Nuclear Throne, and Smash TV, but the rabies mechanic keeps the action going at a punctual pace!
Cyclopean: The Great Abyss
Finally I tried out Cyclopean: The Great Abyss, a crunchy dungeon crawler delving into a Lovecraftian underworld. The Apple II monochrome sells the atmosphere of dread!
Had a great time seeing all these cool games! Some games I didn’t get hands on with the demo myself as I was watching stuff behind other players going through it. You can take these impressions with a grain of salt, but the games looked good to me!I hope to show of my own next year!
