Mastafran January Weekly Sketchbook Week 2

Another week of sketches I’ve been cooking up in my spare time to keep myself going during the daily grind.

Architecture learning to buff my background art skills. I’m making an immediate change to my sketching habit opposed to sketching characters again and again. Backgrounds don’t do well for social posts and that kept discouraging me from drawing them. Usually, I don’t want to post a bunch of crappy trees, but it’s better than nothing.

Sketching ideas of this Giraffe Lady because I saw good a collection of references outfits on Pintrest.

A small sketch of my dragon character in a fun flight with giraffe, one of his many giraffe paramours.

This character is also an exploration of one of my villain characters, Dragonclaw, who I want in Blackmask. Many of my write ups depict him as a rich charismatic leader who can get any lady he wants regardless of species compared to Cole, who flirts often and gets rejected more.

As romantic as this is, I don’t want to depict this as a healthy relationship as Dragonclaw will drop her at the soonest sign of trouble or when she stops being useful to him. I’ll elaborate on this later.

After accending the massive challenge of my giant bear sprite, I scanned older doodles of the Club Bear hanging out with the bandits. Mongo isn’t his name, for sure but it’s the idea of his character I want to convey. This bear is also set up to have variants for guns or other heavy weapons.

Inspired by a dryer tube, I made an armored variant of the Weasel Bandit, the Ferret Knight. More armored with heavier weapons, Ferret Knights defend residential areas from thieves in the night. Check them to make sure they don’t leave their shift with their own contraband.

As I’m writing a new comic featuring the Goat Princess, I reworked some older character designs for her as a hiker. I’m kicking my own ass to do something about it.

Mina the Dance Cat’s Twirling Sketches for a future project. It’s tough to plan this without a digital timeline. Whenever I encounter such hang ups, I get ticked at myself about how little I know about animation.

Sometimes I feel like my human art is diminishing in interesting shapes, so I’m doodling to experiment.

Doing these weeklies is tougher than I anticipated but it’s the minimum I can do. This is better than nothing so I’ll see ya later.
